  • Seizure Monitor Campaign - 1-JAN-2017 to 1-DEC-2030
As a parent, having to hear your own child say I want to be normal like all the other kids must be devastating. As a kid to feel like you arent normal would be an awful burden to bear. Well, you are normal and you are stronger than most.

Life is precious and we have taken it upon ourselves to run a very special campaign for families and their children. Epilepsy is a tough thing to deal with and sometimes medication just isnt enough, sometimes very expensive equipment is also required. The Epilepsy Centre has made a promise and dedication to purchasing this equipment for families in need, free of charge. We as a community have the extraordinary power to improve the lives of people around us. Whether it be loved ones or strangers, we are all equal and we all deserve to feel looked after.

Our most common gift has been a seizure monitor ($1000) which is designed to sound a loud alarm if a seizure occurs during the night. It is attached to the childs bed and detects movements similar to seizures, alerting the family. This device allows parents to sleep in their own bed. In many cases the parents we have met will sleep on the floor next to their child or sleep with their legs wrapped around their child so they can tell when a seizure starts. Can you imagine the constant worry?

These campaigns also include for specialised and custom-made equipment such as Wheelchairs ($4000), Oximeters ($2000), Ice Vests ($200), Safety Helmets ($150) and Life Vests ($150). All of which are simply too expensive for any young family to afford.

We endeavour to assist as many families as possible, especially those who are in desperate need and prioritise this by the seriousness of seizures that children have experienced. Purchasing equipment for these children will alleviate their parents anxiety and lack of sleep but most importantly protect the kids in all aspects of life. Each child can now sleep in their own bed and feel safe and independent which is crucial to their development. With your help, overwhelming generosity and community spirit we have been able to order these gifts and deliver them safely to families across Australia.

Nearly 50,000 people live with Epilepsy here in South Australia and the Northern Territory. Epilepsy is not recognised as an eligible disability and therefore does not attract Government funding. Your donation will go toward raising funds for children in need and to provide ongoing support for people living with Epilepsy.
