Introducing kidsfuturekids

kidsfuturekids is a Community profit organisation run by volunteers. Formerly known as Childrens Foundation of South Australia Inc, kidsfuturekids (kfk) has over 35 years experience providing quality, low cost recreational activities for children facing adversity. Our camps and day activities build self-esteem and personal development in our kids, as well as broadening their horizons and providing them with positive adult role models and providing respite for both kids and caregivers.

Who are our activities for?
Our kids are between 6 and 16 years of age. They are referred by welfare agencies, school counsellors, and many hear about us from friends. We do not require documentation of each childs background, only that the parent or caregiver be prepared to nominate a disadvantage at the first enrolment. The backgrounds we often encounter include: low income; a history of physical or sexual abuse; a family with alcohol and drug related problems; being under Guardianship of the Minister; or simply having difficulty making friends at school. Kids attending must be able to be cared for in a group of 5 to 6 on our activities because we do not have enough volunteers or specially trained people for individual attention to be given to kids with, for instance, severe behavioural problems.

What activities do we do?
Our program includes a range of day activities and camps. Day activities are often in the Adelaide area (rock climbing, Magic Mountain, the Zoo) but some are away (Greenhills Adventure Park and even flying at Aldinga Flying Club). Camps are from Friday night to Sunday afternoon outside the Adelaide area (for example, swimming and fishing at Port Hughes, canoeing at Barmera and rock climbing and high ropes at Woodhouse).

Who are we?
Aside from one full time employee, kfk is run and managed by a core group of volunteers who undergo an interview and police clearance before attending activities. Our leaders are positive and enthusiastic volunteers from 18 to 65 years of age who come from a range of social and employment backgrounds. All leaders are trained by Blue Light Inc. of SA Police, who also provide the insurance umbrella for kfk to run its camps.

How much do activities cost?
Activities are subsidised by 75% to keep them within reach of our clients; for example, a weekend camp costs us more than $100 per child, but we charge $35.00. Day activities are $10. The rest is funded by kfk from a range of fundraising activities, grants and sponsorships.

Volunteer!
Volunteers are needed in many areas including fundraising, administration, cooking, bus driving and camp leading on activities. Volunteers are selected to ensure that children are cared for safely, and all volunteers must receive a police clearance. Volunteers are trained in mandated reporting, first aid and aspects of leadership and teamwork. Leaders are supervised and guided through their early activities.

How can you help us?
There are many ways that you can make a difference to a childs life: make a financial donation; make kidsfuturekids the beneficiary of a business luncheon; sponsor a day activity or camp; volunteer your time; donate goods or services; or include a bequest in your will. Any of these will help bring fun into the lives of kids facing adversity.

Our Vision
Adding value to future generations by empowering children who face adversity.

Our Purpose
