The Mission of the Kids Plus Foundation is to provide access to paediatric intensive therapy programs for babies, children and teenagers (0-18 yrs old) with neuro physical disabilities including cerebral palsy, brain injury, and stroke. The therapy model works with each child's physical functional limitations to increase the participation of these children in daily life, including their roles in family and societal settings such as preschool and school.

Kids Plus Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that provides the Kids Plus Therapy Program, a goal focused intensive therapy program in the Geelong & Barwon Region.

Kids Plus has been convened and is driven by parents and our local community, with the object of providing service to children with disabilities, especially access for younger children and children from low income families.



Kids Plus Therapy Program
� The Kids Plus Therapy Program is a therapy model that has been developed since 1997. It consists of a term block of weekly, task oriented sessions of individual therapy.
� The therapy combines physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech pathology as Neuro-Developmental / Bobath Therapy. This is an internationally recognised and utilised therapy methodology for working with children with neuro-developmental disabilities especially cerebral palsy.
� The goal is to improve the overall wellbeing of these children and assist them to meet their full potential. This therapy model works with the child�s physical limitations to maximise the child�s functional ability to improve coordination, communication, self-care and mobility, in order to facilitate child development, independence, education and family and social interaction. This directly facilitates the child�s and family�s ability to participate within their community.
� The Therapy Program is goal focused � the child, their family and their therapist�s partner together to develop the goals for each program. Examples of these are: activating a communication switch to indicate yes, 3 times out of 4; moving from sit to stand with aid of a static object (ie table leg) every time by the end of the program; drinking 250 ml of water from a cup with no spills 2 out of 3 times; walking in crocodile walker 10 meters in less than 2 minutes;
� The Therapy Program is goal focused. This means that the child, their family and their therapists, partner together to develop specific goals for each child�s program. Examples of these measurable goals are:
o Activating a communication switch to indicate yes, 3 times out of 4
o Moving from sit to stand with one hand on chair every time by the end of the program
o Drinking 250 ml of water from a cup with no spills 2 out of 3 times
o Walking in crocodile walker 10 meters in less than 2 minutes.
� Further examples of these are learning to sit, crawl, walk, move from sit to stand, step up to the toilet, drink from a cup, undress ,play, write, draw, feed, swallow, use verbal communication, access a communication aid, or achieve independent mobility.
� Children are seen individually by therapists, but within an environment that facilitates interaction and support between families.
� Parents are encouraged to partner and participate in home based practice to implement activities and strategies in the child�s environment to facilitate the goals.
� Each therapist has extensive experience with this group of children and has postgraduate qualifications in paediatric therapy, including Neuro Developmental Treatment or Bobath Therapy.
