The Australian Mental Health Suicide Consumer - Alliance Inc. operates under the name of Club SPERANZA. It is the first Australian suicide consumer alliance and was established in 1994. It is the foremost advocate in Australia for consumers - carers - survivors and service professionals on issues of suicide and self-aided death (SAD).

SPERANZA means "hope" and it also stands for Suicide Prevention, Education, Research, Australia & New Zealand Action.

Club SPERANZA is the organisation which actually works with people at risk and those grieving, by providing support groups, counselling, and training workshops. It represents on mental health issues at state and national level with government and non government agencies.

The Vision
"To bring about practical means of lessening the incidence and pain of suicide and SAD in Australia."

Mission
To represent the concern of all those who have a personal, professional, academic or other interest in suicide & self-aided death (SAD); and to effectively engage those concerns in a partnership of consumer advocacy, consumer participation, service, and professional support.

The SPERANZA philosophy of alliance is framed to maximise the ethos of working together for the benefit of all those at risk and is stated as:

§ Promoting and advancing the cause of other agencies and service providers dealing with suicide prevention, self harm, and self-aided death.
§ Working with and for all those affected before and/or after the suicide or SAD event.
§ Advocating for its constituents without favour.
§ Working in a positive and constructive way with service providers.
§ Promoting intergovernmental relationships to advance prevention of suicide and self-aided death.
