Ensemble Theatre

Donations to this organisation are tax deductible

The Ensemble Theatre is Australia's oldest, continuously running, independent theatre company. Established in 1958 by Hayes Gordon, and currently under the directorship of Sandra Bates, the company has endeavoured to entertain and challenge audiences by producing a mix of Australian and international plays. Since 1960 the Ensemble has been housed in a converted boatshed in Kirribilli, and the year 2000 saw the celebration of 40 years in our current location with a season of 16 plays staged over four venues around Sydney. The Ensemble has a subscriber base of over 10,000 people as well as a large number of loyal "single ticket buyers". In 2000 the Ensemble entertained over 120,000 people.

By donating the proceeds from various benefit performances, the Ensemble regularly assists many charitable organisations including The Actors' Benevolent Fund, The Shepherd Centre and the Children's Variety Club. The Ensemble also assists many schools, charity and community groups by donating gift vouchers for fund raising activities. We have also supported and encouraged the annual "Page to Stage" playwriting workshop for young people since its inception in 1994. The Ensemble Theatre is a non-profit organisation and receives no government funding.
