BaptistCare HopeStreet is a trusted place in some of the most vulnerable communities, offering hope to people living with disadvantage and distress.
At BaptistCare HopeStreet, we seek to transform the lives of people in our communities who are living with disadvantage or experiencing great personal trials.
Delivering support services that are person-centred and tailored to meet local needs, our approach at HopeStreet is deeply rooted in our People First philosophy. We respect and care for each person as a valued individual, placing their health and wellbeing above all else.
Our wide range of services supports individuals and families to navigate challenging times, such as homelessness, accessing affordable food, domestic violence, long-term unemployment, relationship breakdown, mental health issues, or addiction. We also walk alongside people who are caught in a cycle of poverty and debt, often with diminished opportunities to break free and live well.
As winter approaches, it becomes an increasingly dangerous time for those experiencing homelessness. Cold and rainy nights pose additional health and safety risks for those sleeping rough or without a permanent place to call home. The cost of living continues to rise, pushing more people to the margins and into homelessness and housing insecurity.
At BaptistCare HopeStreet, we have seen a stark increase in the number of people coming to us for help.
One of those people is Gary. Gary's story is a powerful reminder of how quickly life can unravel and the long-lasting impact it can have.
At 22, Gary had a stable job, a family, and even owned his own home. But after the tragic loss of his mother and the loss of his job, Gary's life took a turn. For the next 30 years, he battled addiction and homelessness, struggling to find stability and support.
When Gary arrived at HopeStreet, he had been sleeping in his car for two weeks. Our case workers welcomed him in, providing him with a hot meal and a shower.
It was the first step on his journey out of homelessness.
