Welcome to SPARC

The Southern Peninsula Amateur Radio Club

SPARC is an active, community-based amateur radio club for communications and electronics enthusiasts. SPARC, as the name suggests, is based on the Mornington Peninsula to the south of Melbourne. The club participates in a wide range of activities including field days, public-relations events, practical construction sessions and a great coffee club every Thursday. The club welcomes prospective new members and visitors.

Amateur radio, also known as ham radio, is the use of radio frequency spectrum for purposes of non-commercial exchange of messages, wireless experimentation, self-training, private recreation, radiosport, contesting, and emergency communication.

SPARC operates the callsign VK3BSP and is active from the clubrooms in Capel Sound. The club has about 80 members whose passions are many and varied. It’s a club of like-minded radio enthusiasts from all walks of life.

Amateur radio requires a license and there are three on offer, all with different skill levels in mind – Foundation, Standard, and Advanced. The club offers regular training and examination services for anyone wishing to get on the air.
